Juniper Viernes

Juniper Viernes (they/she) is a trans Filipina American dancer and writer from the Bay Area. Their scholarship engages with Broadway, dance, and pop culture. Drawing from dance studies, musical theatre studies, and queer of color analysis, her research wonders how contemporary musicals choreograph embodiments of American identity. After earning her BA in Dance & Physics at Columbia University, Juniper performed with General Mischief Dance Theatre and the Chase Brock Experience. They were also a nonfiction fellow with the Kundiman Mentorship Lab. At Northwestern, Juniper contributes dramaturgy to productions at the Wirtz Center. She is an inaugural recipient of the Mellon Cluster Fellowship in Critical Dance Studies. In her free time, Juniper loves live music, good food, classics, and picnicking.
