Hannah Probst

Hannah Probst received their BA in Drama and Law, Societies and Justice from the University of Washington in 2019, and their MA in Transcultural Theatre Studies from the Universität Leipzig in 2023. At the Centre of Competence for Theatre in Leipzig, Hannah was a writer, editor and field researcher, working with amateur theatre groups in rural Saxony to develop workshops exploring pluralistic conceptions of „home“ to counter right-wing identitarianism in East Germany. She also co-developed an oral history project gathering stories from East German theatre professionals (~1970-2022) and a performance lab that created public interventions in collaboration with local activists from the “comfort women” movement. Hannah’s recent work has considered the imposition of reason onto queer subjectivity as well as the potentials, and important limitations, of irrational or unreasonable queer performance as radical political practice. Their recently published chapter on kinky performance explores these themes.
